FAQ
What does MUTCD mean?
MUTCD stands for Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways. It is a set of regulations published by the US Department of Transportation and is the national standard in all facets of using traffic control devices.
How does the purchase process work?
Within a week of purchasing the MUTCD collection from SAi you will be emailed a link and are granted access to download it twice. Once you’ve downloaded it a second time, you won’t be allowed to download it again unless it is purchased again. It is recommended you back up your files so you don’t lose them.
I've purchased the collection before but don't have access anymore. Can you help me get it back?
SAi recently acquired rights to sell and distribute the MUTCD library. Note we are not the sole seller/distributor.
If you purchased it from SAi: You can download the collection twice. Use the same link you originally used to download it, found in your email. If you’ve already downloaded twice regulations require an additional purchase to access the collection again.
If you purchased it from a dealer or another source: Unfortunately we cannot help you recover the files in this instance, you will need to reach out to the reseller from whom it was initially purchased.
What kind of files are in the collection?
The default file type is the native Flexi file (.FS) but can also be purchased as an .EPS collection.
I've lost a couple sign files or only need one or two from the collection, can I just get those?
The SAi Flexi MUTCD Collection is only available as a package and must be purchased as a whole.
Who uses the MUTCD Collection?
State and municipal transportation planners and traffic engineers who build our roads and locate the traffic control devices that assist cars in traveling safely are the most evident users of MUTCD in the public sector.
The engineers and planners collaborate closely with employees of the Federal FHWA Division Office, who help their State and local partners understand and apply MUTCD standards.
The MUTCD is also used by owners of private roads that are accessible to the general public, such as those found in retail malls, theme parks, airports, sports arenas, and the like, to ensure that drivers who are asked to use their roads see signage that is consistent with that found on public roadways.
It is also used by private sector engineering and construction firms, who plan and construct the roads that we all use daily.
For the media, the MUTCD is an invaluable reference resource. Students studying engineering and design depend on it for school assignments.
